Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is a purpose-designed, closely supervised exercise programme for patients with heart conditions. It is carried out in cooperation with the Hirslanden Klinik Im Park and supports you in returning quickly to your daily life, your job, and your leisure activities.

By improving your physical fitness and attending a series of informative sessions, you will gain confidence in managing your condition within your familiar environment. At the same time, the risk of relapse is effectively reduced.

Medical supervision is provided by Prof. Dr. med. Paul Mohacsi of the Hirslanden Klinik Im Park. The programme is accredited by the Swiss Working Group for Cardiovascular Prevention, Rehabilitation and Sports Cardiology (SCPRS).

Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is recommended:

  • after a heart attack,
  • following heart surgery,
  • for heart failure,
  • in cases of significant cardiovascular risk factors.

A prerequisite for participation is sufficient mobility and the ability to travel.

Goals

  • To strengthen physical endurance and restore confidence in your own capabilities.
  • To identify and change harmful behavioural patterns and establish a sustainable, health-promoting lifestyle.
  • To enhance overall quality of life and improve mental wellbeing in the long term.

Duration

Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation lasts for twelve weeks. Each week includes several training sessions as well as one educational seminar.

Fitness Assessment

Before the programme begins, every patient undergoes an initial examination, including a fitness test. An exercise ECG (stress test) is also carried out before and after the rehabilitation programme. These assessments help determine your individual starting point and guide the personalised design of the programme.

Exercise Programme

The training sessions take place under medical supervision and are continually overseen by qualified cardiac physiotherapists from the Physiozentrum. The programme includes strength and endurance training, outdoor exercise, and relaxation techniques. Group sessions are structured into different levels of intensity and are individually tailored to each participant’s physical capacity.

Educational Seminars

During the weekly seminars, you will learn about cardiovascular risk factors and bodily processes following a heart attack or surgical intervention. Participants receive practical advice for everyday life, tips for coping with stress, and information on potentially harmful influences. The programme also includes an introduction to nutritional therapy and – if needed – supportive smoking cessation counselling.

Upon request, we can arrange individual nutritional advice, psychosocial support, or smoking cessation coaching through our partner institutions.

We are a certified rehabilitation centre of the SCPRS

Our outpatient cardiac rehabilitation programme has received an additional mark of quality. Following a thorough review by the Swiss Working Group for Cardiovascular Prevention, Rehabilitation and Sports Cardiology (SCPRS), the programme has been awarded the recognised quality seal for its comprehensive care and high standards of follow-up.

This certification confirms that all requirements are met and that patients recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery, those with heart failure, or with significant cardiovascular risk factors, receive high-quality aftercare.
